About the Director

Matthew Koraus (MM, FAGO, ChM) is the Director of Music Ministries for the Church of St. Patrick in Huntington, NY, where he directs a 50-voice Adult Chorale, a 30-voice Youth Choir, and a 30-voice Cherub Choir, produces an annual concert series, and accompanies the church’s numerous liturgies on two newly installed pipe organs by Sebastian Glück.  He is also an adjunct professor of music at Hofstra University, Hempstead, NY, where he teaches courses in counterpoint and keyboard harmony.

He has written an extensive amount of sacred music for both liturgy and concert, and a number of his liturgical works are published by CanticaNOVA Publications, MorningStar Music Publishers, Oregon Catholic Press, and World Library Publications.

Matthew holds the Fellowship Certification from the American Guild of Organists, and was the 2013 winner of both the Fellowship Prize and the S. Lewis Elmer Award offered by the Guild. He also holds the Guild’s Choir Master Certification and was the 2015 winner of the Choir Master Prize.  Matthew was a finalist in the 2014 National Competition in Organ Improvisation, and won the First Prize of the 2015 University of Michigan Improvisation Competition.

Matthew is a highly sought-after tenor, having worked with choirs at such Manhattan institutions as the Church of Saint Agnes, Church of Saint Vincent Ferrer, the Cathedral of Saint John the Divine, and Saint Thomas Church, Fifth Avenue.  He is a founding member of the vocal quartet VOX AQUARUM.

Matthew is a graduate of Hofstra University (B.S. in Music Theory and Composition, 2009) and the Manhattan School of Music (M.M. in Composition, 2011).

He lives on Long Island with his wife Debbie and their three daughters, Samantha, Jennifer, and Natalie.

The Pipe Organs of St. Patrick’s

Glück Orgelbau,
Opus 16 and Opus 17:

Through the goodness of our parishioners, two new pipe organs by the Glück Pipe Organ Company were installed in 2014 to replace a smaller Möller pipe organ that was failing mechanically.  The grand scaling of the new instruments, featuring two twin consoles of three manuals each and a combined total of 62 pipe ranks (over 3000 pipes), matches well with the cathedral-like size of the St. Patrick’s Church.  The instruments will continue to serve the community in raising the hearts of the faithful to God, and endow each liturgy with a splendor of beauty fitting for the holy sacrifice they celebrate.

Cherub Choir

The Cherub Choir is open to children in kindergarten through 2nd grade,  attending either St. Patrick’s school or public school. This choir will prepare the children to sing in the more advanced Youth Choir, when they reach 3rd grade.  The children learn how to use their singing voices, as well as basic music fundamentals through various fun activities and musical experiences, singing select Sundays at the 8:45am Mass.   The group also sings in costume for the Christmas Pageant portion of the parish's annual service of Lessons and Carols.

The choir meets for rehearsal on Mondays from 3:50pm to 4:25pm in the Lower Hall.

Please contact Mr. Koraus for more information.

Youth Choir

Open to children in grades 3 through 8 attending either St. Patrick’s school or public school.  This choir of 30 voices sings every Sunday from September through June at the 10:00am Mass and for other special occasions throughout the year (such as Suffolk’s annual Choir Festival, and the parish’s Spring Concert with professional orchestra).

Rehearsals are every Monday and Thursday afternoon at 2pm for parish school students, and Thursdays at 4:30pm for public school students.  This is a fun introduction to the world of music ministry, focusing on reading music and developing vocal skills.

Please contact Mr. Koraus for more information.
